Enzymatic capture of an extrahelical thymine in the search for uracil in DNA

Article Abstract:

Studies have established that discrimination of thymine and uracil is initiated by thermally inducing opening of T.A and U.A. base pairs and not by active participation of the enzyme for the human and Escherichia coli enzymes. Base-pair dynamics play a vital role in the genome-wide search for uracil and are involved in initial damage recognition by other DNA repair glycosylases.

Spermatid differentiation requires the assembly of a cell polarity complex downstream of junctional adhesion molecule-C

Article Abstract:

A cell-surface protein of the immunoglobulin superfamily, junctional adhesion molecule-C (JAM-C) that is critically needed for the differentiation of round spermatids into spermatozoa in mice is reported. Results reveal that JAM-C is required for the polarization of round spermatids, a function that is attributed to its role in the assembly of a cell polarity complex.

Structural basis of Dscam isoform specificity

Article Abstract:

The X-ray structures of the amino-terminal four immunoglobulin domains of two distinct Dscam isoforms are described. The results have shown that peptide complementarity of variable residues in epitope I of Dscam is necessary for homophilic binding specificity.
