Evidence for pressure-release melting beneath magmatic arcs from basalt at Galunggung, Indonesia

Article Abstract:

Measurements of the volatile content of primitive magmas from the Indonesian Galunggung volcano arc are presented, suggesting that they were derived from the pressure-release melting of hot mantle peridotite. The samples consisted of mafic glass inclusions in high-magnesium basalts, of uniformly low H20 concentrations, although quite high levels of C02.
