Evidence of atmospheric sulphur in the martian regolith from sulphur isotopes in meteorites

Article Abstract:

Four sulphur-isotope measurements of oxidized and reduced sulphur in SNC meteorites strongly suggest that atmospheric chemistry plays a role in the martian sulphur cycle. SNC sulphur-isotope data supply evidence for a part of the martian sulphur cycle beginning with introduction of sulphur-bearing gases to the atmosphere. This is followed by photochemistry and ends with incorporation of sulphur into the regolith. Constant cycling of sulphur-rich surface dust to the atmosphere by dust devils may play a part in homogenization of surface sulphur.
