Life's a game

Article Abstract:

Edward Castronova, an economist at Indiana University in Bloomington and an expert on multiplayer online games has an ambitious vision to create societies with the intention of experimenting on them. The societies would exist only inside computers with real people living some of their lives through characters (avatars) in these virtual worlds and he and other researchers want to fine-tune the rules of those worlds so they could study everything from democracy to monetary policy.
