Article Abstract:

An arcane, computer-driven technology known as geographic information systems (GIS) is rapidly redrawing the map of modern conservation. GIS allows landscape ecologists to use the Global Positioning System (GPS) to locate, record, and analyze information such as human development, presence of wild species and national park boundaries, and can be a valuable tool to educate people in the benefits of habitat preservation.
