From peril to progress: since 1990, the Nature Conservancy and the U.S. Agency for International Development have helped Latin American partners chart a new course for "Parks in Peril."

Article Abstract:

The Parks in Peril program of the the Nature Conservancy and the U.S. Agency for International Development is discussed. Project examples include the Sierra de las Minas Biosphere Reserve in Guatemala, Noel Kempff Mercado National Park in Bolivia, and a project to return land to the Kogi people in Colombia's Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Waiting for the sky

Article Abstract:

Award-winning photographer Clyde Butcher has captured unexplored landscapes on film for 35 years with his large format cameras. He believes that wilderness is a spiritual necessity and his experience has reinforced his dedication to use his art as an inspiration for others to work together to save nature's places of spiritual sanctuary.

In response to place: photographs from the Nature Conservancy's Last Great Places

Article Abstract:

A selection of photographs are presented that depict the Nature Conservancy's flagship conservation sites, including Pyramid Lake, NV, the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve in Mexico, and Cobscook Bay, Maine. The photos are part of an exhibit which will be on display at the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. in Sep 2001.
