Gaia's Handmaidens: the Orlog Model for Conservation Biology

Article Abstract:

A metaphor is drawn from the Norse worldview, known as the Orlog, to illustrate the concept of cooperation necessary to conservation biology. In the Orlog, three sisters work together tending the tree of life; in conservation biology, the three disciplines of ecology, evolution, and phylogenetics must also work together to maintain a self-regulating environmental system.

Planning for Climate Change: Identifying Minimum-Dispersal Corridors for the Cape Proteaceae

Article Abstract:

A quantitative method is presented for identifying corridors of connectivity through changing habitat suitabilities, and is then applied to South Africa's Cape Floristic region for the conservation of Proteaceae. Conservation goals and costs are delineated.

The roles of optimism in conservation biology
