Genetic mechanisms and evolutionary significance of natural variation in Arabidopsis

Article Abstract:

Recent studies of natural variation in the model plant species Arabidopsis thaliana, have led to the identification of genes underlying ecologically important complex traits, and provide new insights about the processes of genome evolution, geographic population structure, and the selective mechanisms shaping complex trait variation in natural populations. The studies demonstrate the potential for a new synthesis to elucidate mechanisms for the adaptive evolution of complex traits from nucleotide sequences to real-world environments.

Dissection of epistasis in oligogenic Bardet-Biedl syndrome

Article Abstract:

The identification of a novel locus, MGC1203, is reported, that contributes epistatic alleles to Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS), a pleiotropic, oligogenic disorder. The data demonstrate how the combined use of biochemical, genetic and in vivo tools can facilitate the dissection of epistatic phenomena.

Basal body dysfunction is a likely cause of pleiotropic Bardet-Beidl syndrome

Article Abstract:

Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is a genetically heterogeneous disorder, characterized primarily by retinal dystrophy, obesity, polydactyl, renal malformations and learning disabilities. It is shown that BBS, is caused by a defect at the basal body of ciliated cells.
