Geophagy among primates: adaptive significance and ecological consequences

Article Abstract:

Issues concerning geophagy, or soil ingestion, in primates are discussed. It is concluded that the most plausible reasons by geophagy takes place in primates include adsorption of toxins, mineral supplementation and pH adjustment of the gut.
