Gigaxonin-controlled degradation of MAP1B light chain is critical to neuronal survival

Article Abstract:

Evidence for gigaxonin binding to the light chain (LC) of microtubule-associated protein 1B (MAP1B) is presented and the enhanced degradation of MAP1B-LC by overexpression of gigaxonin is verified. It is concluded that gigaxonin is an ubiquitin scaffolding protein that controls MAP1B-LC degradation and provides insight into the molecular mechanisms characterizing human neurogenerative disorders.

Relays at the membrane

Article Abstract:

The Wnt signaling pathway is a major route, which allows a cell to receive messages from its environment and transfer this signal from the membrane through the cytoplasm and into the nucleus. A gap in the sequence of signaling proteins of Wnt pathway is now filled.

Barbed ends rule

Article Abstract:

Cells use probes of various structures as they interact with their environment. Broad, flat protrusions or long, thin protrusions, they seem to be regulated by proteins at the growing barbed ends of actin filaments.
