Growing Y-junction carbon nanotubes

Article Abstract:

It has been possible to use nano-structured template channels to grow individual Y-junction carbon-nanotube heterostructures by the pyrolysis of acetylene with cobalt catalysis. Y-junction nanotubes with stems and branches of different diameters can be produced by varying the anodization conditions. This research has shown that Y-junction carbon nanotubes can be grown controllably and in preference to straight nanotubes. Large numbers of well-aligned Y-junction carbon nanotubes can be formed by using a Y-branched nanochannel for pyrolytic nanotube growth.

Density of states reflects diameter in nanotubes

Article Abstract:

It is shown that all semiconducting single-wall nanotubes having similar diameters should have similar states densities near the Fermi level, independent of the translational unit cell size. A single-wall nanotube (SWNT) was built from a single rolled sheet of graphite, and the allowed electron states were the graphene bands satisfying periodic boundary conditions k.R=2pim, with m an integer. The predictions are consistent with numerical results illustrated.

'Buckypaper' from coaxial nanotubes

Article Abstract:

Carbon nanotubes are needed to be in a pure, highly crystalline form to investigate the electronic properties, thermal transport and mechanical behavior of it. The processes to obtain different forms of Double-walled carbon nanotubes, or (DWNTs) are emphasized.
