Growth, conservation, and the necessity of new alliances

Article Abstract:

The author supports the development of alliances between conservation biologists and other constituencies whose interests are also threatened by unchecked material consumption and human population growth. This will provide conservation biologists with the power to influence relevant policy changes and establish direct protection for ecosystems and species.

Prospects for ecosystem management in the Crown of the Continent Ecosystem, Canada-United States: survey and recommendations

Article Abstract:

The article compares and contrasts international versus state and province transboundary cooperation approaches in ecosystem management of the Canada-United States Crown of the Continent Ecosystem. Findings suggest that state and province cooperation is optimal; strategies for facilitating opportunities for ecosystem management are discussed.

Salvage Logging, Ecosystem Processes, and Biodiversity Conservation

Article Abstract:

The article recommends the adoption of ecologically informed procedures regarding salvage logging, or the removal of trees from sites after natural disturbances. Having policies already in place would mitigate environmental damage caused by removal efforts.
