Host plant influence on the mating success of male Mediterranean fruit flies: Variable effects within and between individual plants

Article Abstract:

An association between host plant chemistry and the mating success of male medflies mediated, at least in part, through plant-induced variation in male pheromone calling is reported. Results reveal that male medflies exposed to particular sections of guava bark, entire trees containing such stations, or guava fruits gained a mating advantage over males without such exposure.

Lek size and female visitation in two species of tephritid fruit flies

Article Abstract:

Research describing the effects on female fruit flies of increasing male lek size is presented. Female preference is found to vary between species and to conflict with male behavior.
