Multiple dopamine D4 receptor variants in the human population

Article Abstract:

Genetic and pharmacological analysis showed that the human D4 receptor exists in three polymorphic forms: a direct-repeat sequence, a fourfold repeat and a sevenfold repeat. This is the first detection of polymorphism among receptors of the catecholamine group. Moreover, this polymorphic variation may contribute to neuropsychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and manic depression and may determine the effectiveness of antipsychotic drugs.

Direct protein-protein coupling enables cross-talk between dopamine D5 and gamma-aminobutryric acid A receptors

Article Abstract:

GABA A and dopamine D1 an D5 receptors are structurally and functionally divergent groups of neurotransmitter receptors. It is shown that GABA A-ligand gated channels complex selectively with D5 receptors via the direct binding of the D5 carboxy-terminal domain, with the second intracellular loop of the GABA A.
