Human general transcription factor IIH phosphorylates the C-terminal domain of RNA polymerase II

Article Abstract:

The general transcription factor IIH (TFIIH) phosphorylates the C-terminal domain of RNA polymerase II. A kinase that stimulates phosphorylation is present in TFIIH's structure. This phosphorylation of the RNA polymerase is important because it regulates the change from transcription initiation to elongation. Moreover, the transcription factor IIE, necessary for the stable linking of TFIIH with the preinitiation complex, influences the TFIIH kinase's processivity.

The chromatin-specific transcription elongation factor FACT comprises human SPT16 and SSRP1 proteins

Article Abstract:

FACT (facilitates chromatin transcription) is shown to consist of a new human homologue of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae Spt16/Cdc68 protein and the high-mobility group-1-like protein structure specific recognition protein-1. Spt16/Cdc68 is found to be involved in transcript elongation in vivo and FACT has a specific interaction with nucleosomes and histone H2A/H2B dimers.

RNA polymerase II elongation through chromatin

Article Abstract:

Research shows that eukaryotic cells contain specialized proteins that ease the passage of an RNA polymerase through a gene. It is thought that the action is linked to the elongation process.
