Human-imprinted northern bobwhite chicks and indexing arthropod foods in habitat patches

Article Abstract:

A comparison is presented between arthropod abundance and imprinted bobwhite habitat patch indices in determining foraging value for northern bobwhite chicks. Arthropod abundance was found to be potentially unreliable, as it did not account for arthropod availability to the chicks.

Estimating calling rates of northern bobwhites in Western Oklahoma

Article Abstract:

The mortality rates of northern bobwhites are studied by capturing and radiomarking 2,647 bobwhites in Oklahoma, USA. Evidence indicated that radiotransmitters handicapped bobwhites and lower survival estimates were examined.

Effects of foliar insecticides on survival of northern bobwhite quail chicks

Article Abstract:

Exposure rates and hazard were quantified to determine the risk insecticides pose to the northern bobwhite quail. Worst-case simulations resulted in no mortality among quail chicks or depression of brain cholinesterase (ChE) activity. However, ChE activity was depressed and body mass was lower in chicks exposed to methyl parathion. Findings collectively suggested that foliar-applied insecticides have direct effects to survival of quail chicks.
