Hydatellaceae identified as a new branch near the base of the angiosperm phylogenetic tree

Article Abstract:

Researchers have shown that Hydatellaceae, a small family of dwarf aquatics that were formerly interpreted as monocots, are a highly modified and previously unrecognized ancient lineage of angiosperms. The results have shown that the water lilies are part of a larger lineage that evolved more extreme and diverse modifications for life in an aquatic habitat.

The grapevine genome sequence suggests ancestral hexaploidization in major angiosperm phyla

Article Abstract:

A high-quality draft of the genome sequence of grapevine (Vitis vinifera) obtained from a highly homozygous genotype is described. The studies have disclosed the contribution of three ancestral genomes to the grapevine haploid content and have also described the chronology of the whole-genome duplication events in the evolution of flowering plants.

Unravelling angiosperm genome evolution by phylogenetic analysis of chromosomal duplication events

Article Abstract:

A phylogenetic approach is integrated with a genomic approach to show that a genome-wide duplication post-dates the divergence of Arabidopsis from most dicots. It is also shown that an inferred ancestral gene order for Arabidopsis reveals more synteny with other dicots.
