In pursuit of the gurge

Article Abstract:

The regurgitated food of sea birds 60 kilometres off the western coast of Australia, on the islands of Houtman Abrolhos, are examined, to discover what the gurge says about the diet of the birds and impact fisheries have on the environment. Topics include diversity and population of seabirds in the area; research techniques of the scientists; bird diet consisting of Beaked Salmon, Blackspot Goatfish, and Bellowsfish; and the relationship between fish supply and bird breeding behavior.

Ecosystem services

Article Abstract:

Ecosystem services is a concept used to describe the biotic processes that sustain life, such as climate regulation, air and water purification, and soil regeneration. Governments and international institutions are beginning to recognize the importance of ecosystem services, as in many instances it is much more cost effective to protect a pristine, operational ecosystem than to attempt to correct problems related to interference.
