Indirect radiative forcing of climate change through ozone effects on the land-carbon sink

Article Abstract:

The impact of projected changes in ozone levels on the land-carbon sink is estimated by using a global land carbon cycle model, which is modified to include the effect of ozone deposition on photosynthesis and to account for interactions between ozone and carbon dioxide through stomatal closure. It is shown that the resulting indirect radiative forcing by ozone effects on plants might contribute more towards global warming than the direct radiative forcing due to tropospheric ozone increases.

Increased terrestrial methane cycling at the Palaeocene-Eocene thermal maximum

Article Abstract:

A decrease in the carbon isotope values of the hopanoids at the onset of the Palaeocene-Eocene thermal maximum interval is measured. Results reveal that the release of methane from the terrestrial biosphere increased and acted as a positive response mechanism to global warming.
