Infection scare inflames fight against biodefense network

Article Abstract:

The accidental infection of three Massachusetts-based Boston University researchers with active strain of tularemia bacterium is raising questions about the US expansion of biodefense laboratories. The handling of the case has caused outrage and stirred opposition to the biodefense lab as the university delayed reporting the incidents to the state health authorities by 12 days, although state law requires that such cases be reported within 24 hours.

Congress attacked over species bill

Article Abstract:

Conservationists complain about members of Congress misrepresenting science to change the way endangered species are protected in the US. They report that the Endangered Species Act (ESA) is twisted to win passage of a new law that would reduce protection of animals and birds and hope that more scientists would join in the debate.
