Inferring vulnerability to introduced predators without experimental demonstration: case study of Suter's skink in New Zealand

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that New Zealand's Suter skink populations are more vulnerable to predation by introduced Pacific rats if no boulder-strewn beaches are available as refuges. The authors caution however against verifying cause and effect using field experiments if prey and predators do not coexist already.
