Initial responses to substrates by naive spiderlings: Single and simultaneous choices

Article Abstract:

The efficiency of naive spiderlings, Misumena vativa in exploiting hunting sites is evaluated. The spiderlings significantly preferred goldenrod inflorescences over aster inflorescence, both when these blooms were presented to them one at a time and simultaneously, if they were in physical contact with these blooms a result that matched the numbers of preys these flowers attract.

Social influences on vigilance behavior in giraffes, Giraffa camelopardalis

Article Abstract:

Group size effects in giraffes are investigated and social influences on their scanning behavior as well as the influence of feeding posture are examined. Vigilance advantages are postulated as a determinant of sexual segregation in giraffe foraging heights but the posture associated with high foraging heights impose a vigilance cost, not an advantage.

Discrete dragline attachment induces aggregation in spiderlings of a solitary species

Article Abstract:

Solitary spiders undergo a transient gregarious phase in their early stages of their life. A series of experiments are designed in which collective displacements are induced in groups of spiderlings of the solitary species Larinioides cornutus (Araneae: Araneidae).
