Interactions between ant species increase arrival rates of an ant parasitoid

Article Abstract:

An analysis was conducted to test whether interspecific encounters between ants enhance the host location success of a parasitoid that attacks ants in the genus Linepithema. The results indicate that the antEs chemical is used by phorid parasitoids of Linepithema as host location cues.

Leaf-cutter ant species (Hymenoptera: Atta) differ in the types of cues used to differentiate between self and others

Article Abstract:

Recognition mechanism among the ant species and variation in chemical odors is analyzed. Odor cues are used by Hymenoptera: Atta, the leaf-cutter ant species, to differentiate itself from others.
