Interleukin-16 or not?

Article Abstract:

A comparison of the DNA sequence of interleukin-16 (IL-16) with the published 5'-untranslated sequence shows certain differences, which indicate that IL-16 does not behave as a conventional secreted cytokine. The protein observed in cell cultures containing activated CD8+ cells is probably formed by the processing of the IL-16 precursor. The IL-16 protein product probably contains 374 amino acids, three discs-large homologous regions, and no hydrophobic signal peptide. The antiviral activities of IL-16 are due to the interaction of the truncated protein with CD4 cells.

A new class of membrane-bound chemokine with a CX3C motif

Article Abstract:

A fourth human chemokine type, derived from non-haemapoietic cells and bearing a new CX3C fingerprint, has been identified and characterized. The polypeptide chain of the human CX3C chemokine, unlike other types of chemokine, may be a component of a 373-amino acid protein whereby the chemokine domain rests on top of an extended mucin-like stalk. The CX3C chemikine may be a unique type that is part of the molecular control of leukocyte traffic at the endothelium.

Involvement of chemokine receptors in breast cancer metastasis

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the involvement of chemokine receptors CXCR4 and CCR7 in breast cancer cells in humans, metastasis and malignant breast tumours. The peak expression of their respective ligands in body organs is discussed.
