Is out of sight out of mind? The effects of resource cues on motivation in mink, Mustela vison

Article Abstract:

The priorities of mink in both a typical closed economy demand set-up and one where resource cues were distant and screened at the choice point are assessed. Different designs and measures of motivation vary in their suitability for addressing the two types of applied questions that use motivational data are also suggested.

Patterns of alliance formation and postconflict aggression indicate spotted hyaenas recognize third-party relationships

Article Abstract:

A study examined whether hyaenas consistently supported dominant animals over subordinates when they joined the dyadic fights. The results suggest that hyaenas can recognize third-party relationships, and thus support the idea that social complexity drives the evolution of intelligence in phylogenetically disparate taxa.

Female American mink, Mustela vison, mate multiply in a free-choice environment

Article Abstract:

The mating pattern of the female American mink, Mustela vison, in a free-choice environment is studied. The observations suggest that in wild populations, mating patterns could be influenced by female preference for multiple partners.
