Isotopic hide and seek

Article Abstract:

The abundance of neodymium isotopes in volcanic rocks has provided evidence on the early dynamics of Earth's interior and also fresh insight into the structure and flow of the modern mantle. Several models are proposed for the structure and dynamics of the mantle, where the layered mantle convection might explain why deep reservoirs have become segregated from upper mantle regions.

Hf-Nd isotope evidence for a transient dynamic regime in the early terrestrial mantle

Article Abstract:

Hf-Nd isotope data on supracrustals from Isua, Greenland was compared with lunar rock data and the martian meteorites, showing that the geo-chemical signature of the Archaean mantle was partly inherited around 3.8 Gyr ago from the initial differentiation of the Earth.

Isotopic portrayal of the Earth's upper mantle flow field

Article Abstract:

The study of the distribution of radiogenic isotopes along the world's ocean ridges showed that due to drag exerted by the continental keels, refilling of the upper mantle is slow in the Atlantic and Indian ridge and rapid in the Pacific.
