Landscape & memory: Preserving America's vanishing prairie

Article Abstract:

The prairies of the Great Plains are signature American landscapes, and wide lands under wider skies are symbols of seemingly limitless opportunity and enduring hope. A group has embarked on a unique public-private partnership with the National Park Service and the Kansas Park Trust to help protect and manage the Tall-grass Prairie National Preserve.

An ounce of prevention

Article Abstract:

The Congress passed the State Wildlife Grant Program in 2001, and the core strategy for preventing species from becoming endangered are enumerated. Under the program, states and territories that complete a comprehensive wildlife conservation plan by October 1, 2005, are eligible to receive federal dollars for conservation.

Passing the drip torch: AmeriCorps crews at work on the land

Article Abstract:

The job profile of AmeriCorps crews at work is outlined. Former AmeriCorps crew member Regina Gauss worked in Minnesota last year and enjoys talking about her experiences and it is stated that the partnership between the Conservancy and AmeriCorps has lasting effects on the crew members as well.
