Learning threat-sensitive predator avoidance: how do fathead minnows incorporate conflicting information?

Article Abstract:

Experiments show that prey fish respond to predation threats using both predator cues and alarm cues, relying primarily on alarm cues to obtain new information regarding a given predator. Impacts and implications of conditioning are also discussed.

The role of learning in the development of threat-sensitive predator avoidance by fathead minnows

Article Abstract:

The ability of predator-naive fathead minnows, Pimephales promelas, to learn to recognize an unknown predator is investigated. The result showed that minnows learn to respond more intensely to predation cues associated with high risk.
