Article Abstract:

PhD graduates with a strong background in science can find career opportunities in patent, regulatory and environmental law. There is an oversupply of graduates for some disciplines in science and for the legal profession, but there is a supply shortage of graduates with both legal and scientific knowledge. New entrants to the job market can find the going is tough. A substantial investment is needed to embark on such a career, so careful consideration is necessary.

US minorities stake their claim in science and engineering

Article Abstract:

There is still only limited minority participation in science in the US. The challenges associated with encouraging scientific potential in young people from minority backgrounds are discussed.

Postdocs reject academic research

Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the difficulties faced by PhD graduates in finding suitable job vacancies in science. Only 22.9% were successful in 1997 whereas 26.6% were successful in 1993.
