Lessons from past climates

Article Abstract:

Martin I. Hoffert and Curt Covey have used data from the Earth's history to derive an estimate of the atmosphere's sensitivity to changes in concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide, an estimate that does not depend on any general circulation model. Their results are consistent with those of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. However, since their data did not include seasonal variations, but only averages, their results must be treated with caution.

Offset of the potential carbon sink from boreal forestation by decreases in surface albedo

Article Abstract:

A model is presented to show how the surface albedo of a forested landscape influences the whole impact of forestation on climate. Reductions in albedo can produce positive radiative forcings on climate, so that some forestation in high-latitude areas can actually boost climate change and not limit it.

That sinking feeling

Article Abstract:

Research into the effect of global warming on the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed from the atmosphere by oceans and land is discussed. Models suggest that global warming will greatly affect the land and ocean 'sinks'.
