Performance of a GPS animal location system under boreal forest canopy

Article Abstract:

A study has been conducted to examine the effect of habitat on Global Positioning Satellite (GPS)-collar performance under various forest conditions. GPS collars in an experimental forest with matured and evenly-spaced trees were shown to influence GPS observation rate, but not positional accuracy. As tree density increased, the 2-dimensional mode of operation decreased the observation rate and resulted to greater location error.

Effects of selection cutting on bird communities in contiguous eastern hardwood forests

Article Abstract:

Bird communities in hard-wood forest have been sampled to find the impact on birds of single-tree harvesting system. In selection cut stands the abundance of some bird species was low, still the reproductive success in combination with population modeling with changing proportions of the forested landscape committed to selection cutting were required to determine the implications to population persistence.

Using digital photographs to evaluate the effectiveness of plover egg crypsis

Article Abstract:

The efficiency of digital photography to quantify variation in eggshell color as well as egg marking patterns is tested. Results concluded that fast and precise results can be achieved with minimal disturbance to wildlife.
