Liquid-crystalline phases as templates for the synthesis of mesoporous silica

Article Abstract:

The synthesis of mesoporous silica is undertaken through the use of templates that use the liquid-crystalline stages of two ethers. The validity of this approach is substantiated by results which show that the phase diagram of the combined surfactant, silica and water system achieved at high surfactant concentration has similar characteristics as the system composed of surfactant and water alone. This aspect points to the potential predictability of results.

Porous silica via colloidal crystallization

Article Abstract:

It is possible to produce microstructured porous silicas with very uniform and structured pores of tuneable size in the submicrometer region. This is achieved by using modified colloidal crystals as templates for silica polymerization. It was possible to produce organized materials with a wide range of pore sizes by varying the size of the latex microspheres used. This method could be adapted for large-scale production.

Fragile-to-strong transition and polyamorphism in the energy landscape of liquid silica

Article Abstract:

Research describing the dynamic and static properties of liquid silica is presented. In particular changes in the energy landscape with decreasing temperature are investigated.
