Loans may keep CERN collider on target

Article Abstract:

The European Laboratory for Particle Physics (CERN) is considering taking out bank loans to fund its Large Hadron Collider project. CERN officials are evaluating this option in view of the German government's decision to substantially reduce its annual contributions to the project. They state that the bank loans may be the only way to complete the project by the year 2005, especially if other contributing nations follow Germany's lead.

CERN plan to train science entrepreneurs

Article Abstract:

The European Laboratory for Particle Physics, CERN, is expanding its training programmes for young scientists and engineers. A director of technology transfer, Hans Hoffmann, has been appointed. The laboratory will offer additional courses in entrepreneurship and intellectual property rights and it will being seeking out patentable inventions. The move is in response to pressure form its 19 member states.
