Local adaptation but not geographical separation promotes assortative mating in a snail

Article Abstract:

A comparison on mounting frequency and duration between mates of different ecotypes with that between mates of the same ecotype but from populations at various geographical distances in the marine snail Littorina saxatilis is presented. It is observed that mating between males of similar sizes but different ecotype is more frequently interrupted than mating between the same ecotype.

Size-assortative mating in salmonids: Negative evidence for pink salmon in natural conditions

Article Abstract:

Size-assortative mating in a population of naturally reproducing pink salmon, Oncorhynchus gorbuscha is investigated. Results reveal that larger males are often found in closest proximity to spawning females suggesting that larger males have a competitive advantage over smaller males when it comes to mate choice.

A process of pair formation leading to assortative mating: passive age-assortative mating by habitat heterogeneity

Article Abstract:

An individual-based model, dealing with mating as a process of pair formation, is presented. Model simulations shows that the mating pattern of a population is not necessarily a direct consequence of the mating preferences of individuals and positive age-assortative mating.
