Out of sight but not out of mind: modulation of recruitment according to home range marking in ants

Article Abstract:

Home range marking in ants can indicate the density and activity of nestmates that allows scouts to assess the potential interest of the area as a foraging site. How home range marking through footprints influences the foraging behavior of Lasius niger scouts at a sugar food source is investigated.

Learned magnetic compass orientation by the Siberian hamster, Phodopus sungorus

Article Abstract:

Laboratory raised Siberian hamsters also use directional information from the magnetic field to position their nests is shown. It is suggested that the presence of nonmagnetic cues may influence the expression of magnetic orientation in the Siberian hamster.
