Local pairs and small surfaces

Article Abstract:

The emergence of the classic signature of a metal, a Fermi surface, in a high-temperature semiconductor and the impact of temperatures above the transition from high-temperature superconducting state on the electron pairs are described. The quantum oscillations of the newly discovered Fermi surface will be very important in solving the high-temperature superconductivity.

Controlled vesicle deformation and lysis by single oscillating bubbles

Article Abstract:

An experiment in which gentle (linear) bubble oscillations are used to achieve rupture of lipid membranes is elaborated. The use of microbubbles as focusing agents makes acoustics on the micrometer scale, a viable tool with possible applications in cell wall permeation, cell manipulation and in microfluidic devices.

Demixing in simple fluids induced by electric field gradients

Article Abstract:

Electric fields can control the phase separation behavior of mixtures of simple liquids under more practical conditions, provided that the fields are non-uniform. This phenomenon will find a number of nano-technical applications, particularly as it benefits from field gradients near conducting objects.
