Superconductivity in doped cubic silicon

Article Abstract:

The superconductivity can be induced when boron is locally introduced into silicon at concentrations above its equilibrium solubility. The calculated electron-phonon coupling strength is found to be consistent with a conventional phonon-mediated coupling mechanism, which facilitates the fabrication of new silicon-based superconducting nanostructures and mesoscopic devices with high-quality interfaces.

Measurement of the displacement field of dislocations to 0.03 angstroms by electron microscopy

Article Abstract:

The measurement of displacements around an edge dislocation in silicon by electron microscopy and image analysis compare well with those calculated from anisotropic elastic theory and agree better than 0.03 angstroms. Research points out that electron microscopy can be used as a metrological tool for strain analysis.

Nanofluidics: Silicon for the perfect membrane

Article Abstract:

A novel method is developed for preparing ultrathin nanoporous membranes made from silicon. The method can be easily integrated into "labs-on-chip", the microfluidic systems that are growing due to their potential for medical diagnostics, drug discovery and chemical synthesis.
