The ferryman casts his shadow

Article Abstract:

Pluto had predicted to occult a star in 1980 but European observations confirmed that its shadow had missed Earth to the north and the Charon, whose orbit was not well known at that time. The observations of a stellar occultation, the passage of a Solar System object in front of a sufficient bright star-by Charon, allowing the most accurate assessment of the moon's size and of the possibility that it has an atmosphere are discussed.

Chaos-assisted capture of irregular moons

Article Abstract:

Research indicates that irregular satellites, including moons, are captured from chaotic orbits of a thin spatial region, which renders the orbit either prograde or retrograde depending on the initial energy. Data point out that the chaotic layer influences the final inclinations of the captured moons as determined by7 Monte Carlo simulation studies.

Saturn's retrograde renegade

Article Abstract:

The Cassini-Huygens spacecraft is proposed to return with a wealth of data from its orbital tour of Saturn's rings and moons. It is revealed that on 11 June 2004 just before the spacecraft entered Saturn's orbit, it made its closets approach to the planet's outermost moon Pheobe.
