Luteal function and reproductive response in suckled beef cows after metestrus administration of a Norgestomet implant and injection of estradiol valerate with various dosages of injectable Norgestomet

Article Abstract:

Cows given a 6.0 mg injection of Norgestomet together with estradiol valerate and the Norgestomet ear implant during metestrus were found to have a higher synchronized pregnancy rate than cows treated with a 3.0 mg injection. The higher dosage also resulted in a lower proportion of cows with functional corpora lutea, as indicated by lower serum progesterone levels. Most of the cows treated with the 6.0 mg dosage showed synchronized estrus within 72 hours of implant removal. Used in conjunction with Syncro-Mate-B (SMB), Norgestomet seemed to enhance SMB control of luteal function.

Influence of genotype and yield and composition of milk on interval to first postpartum ovulation in milked beef and dairy cows

Article Abstract:

Holstein, Simmental and Angus breeds were studied to determine the influence of genotype and milk yield on interval to first postpartum ovulation in cows. Nulliparous heifers were chosen and inseminated to calve. A progesterone assay in blood was used to determine ovulation. Postpartum experiments show that in the absence of suckling, anestrus interval to postpartum ovulation is affected by genotype but not by changes in body weight and condition, yield and milk composition.

Influence of biostimulation on reproduction in postpartum beef cows

Article Abstract:

Bulls and androgenized or testosterone treated cows (TTC) were introduced to cows within 72 hours postpartum to determine the effects of TTC in decreasing interval to estrus in suckled, postpartum beef cows. It was shown that exposure to biostimulation from androgenized cows or bulls decreased the time of return to estrus. This underlines the importance of biostimulation on increasing reproductive capacity of cows by inducing early pregancy.
