Making it up as you go along

Article Abstract:

Brian Schweitzer, a rancher and the Democratic governor of Montana and his constituents believe that Montana with 8% of the world's reserves of coal has enough coal to make 240 billion barrels of diesel fuel which is almost similar to the proven reserves claimed by Saudi Arabia. Many politicians and businessman are considering a chemical process called the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis as a way of converting solid hydrocarbons or natural gas into liquid fuel, which could be made to burn more cleanly than diesel and thus ease the adaptation of cars with efficient diesel engines in countries such as the United States.
