Memory of macromolecular helicity assisted by interaction with achiral small molecules

Article Abstract:

The macromolecular helicity of a stereoregular, cis-transoidal poly((4-carboxyphenyl)acetylene) induced by optically active amines remains even after the optically active amines have been removed and replaced by achiral ones. The memory lasted for a very long time and showed almost no changes at all over three months at ambient temperature. The half-life of the memory is estimated at over four years at between 20 degrees C and 25 degrees C. It is clear that the memory effect must be governed kinetically.

Synthesis of the gold analogue of the elusive doubly protonated water molecule

Article Abstract:

Reaction of tris((tri(o-tolyl)phosphine)gold(I)) oxonium tetrafluoroborate with (tri(o-tolyl)phosphine)gold(I) tetrafluoroborate yields the divalent cation ((LAu)4O)2+. The oxygen atom has tetrahedral geometry and is bound to four Au atoms. All the four ligands and the aryl groups are equivalent. The compound is stable at high temperatures due to the bonding among the Au atoms. This compound is the gold analogue of the doubly protonated water molecule, (H4O)2+, which is stable only in the gaseous state.

Going for gold

Article Abstract:

Research on gold atoms is examined in detail. The interactions between such atoms are of interest due to the similarity of their strength with that of hydrogen links.
