Mesoscale conformational changes in the DNA-repair complex Rad50/Mre11/Nbs1 upon binding DNA

Article Abstract:

The dynamic architecture of human Rad50/Mre11/Nbs1 (hR/M/N) is markedly affected by DNA binding. DNA binding by the hR/M/N globular domain leads to parallel orientation of the coiled coils and this prevents intracomplex interactions and favors intercomplex associations needed for DNA tethering.

Antitumour drugs impede DNA uncoiling by topoisomearse 1

Article Abstract:

A single molecule nanomanipulation is used to monitor the dynamics of human topoisomerase I in the presence of topotecan, which enabled the detection of binding an unbinding of individual topotecan molecule in real time and to quantify the drug-induced trapping of topoisomerase in DNA.

Electron-hole symmetry in a semiconducting carbon nanotube quantum dot

Article Abstract:

The measurements of the discrete, quantized-energy spectrum of electrons and holes in a semiconducting carbon nanotube are reported. The discrete excitation spectrum for a nanotube with N holes is strikingly similar to the corresponding spectrum for N electrons.
