Mist net effort required to inventory a forest bat species assemblage

Article Abstract:

A bootstrap resampling algorithm was used to evaluate the number of mist net surveys needed to inventory temperate bat species assemblages at both study area and site levels. It was found that multiple mist net surveys are required to capture most species of bats in a forested region, with the results of the survey beneficial for planning inventories in nearby geographical regions and similar habitat types.

Factors affecting the permeability of clearcuts to red-legged frogs

Article Abstract:

Research on Vancouver Island red-legged frog populations shows that clearcuts less than 12 years old are major barriers to frog movement, such as dispersing to home ranges or accessing seasonal habitats. Movement was also affected by body mass and weather conditions. Affects of regenerating clearcuts on frog movement is also discussed.

Bullfrogs, disturbance regimes, and the persistence of California red-legged frogs

Article Abstract:

Research is presented on bullfrog predation on California red-legged frogs. Shooting and pond draining used in combination were effective at lowering bullfrog densities; a model for evaluating populations and the efficacies of control techniques is also described.
