Mitf cooperates with Rb1 and activates p21(super Cip1) expression to regulate cell cycle progression

Article Abstract:

Mitf can act as a novel anti-proliferative transcription factor able to induce a G1 cell-cycle arrest that is dependent kinase inhibitor gene and the cooperation between Mitf and the retinoblastoma protein Rb1 potentiates the ability of Mitf to activate transcription. The results indicate that Mitf-mediated activation of p21(super Cip1) expression and consequent hypophosphorylation of Rb1 will contribute to cell exit and activation of the differentiation programme.

A snip separates sisters

Article Abstract:

The way in which sister chromosomes separate from one another when cells divide is reported in a paper by Uhlmann and colleagues. They used a combination of biochemistry and genetics to show that sister separation requires cleavage of Scc1, a subunit. Cleavage sites were mapped and mutations were made to block them, while the mutant gene was reintroduced into cells.

Cdk1 is sufficient to drive the mammalian cell cycle

Article Abstract:

Mouse embryos lacking all interphase cyclin-dependent kinase (Cdk) have undergone organogenesis and have developed to midgestation. The results have indicated that Cdk1 is the only essential cell cycle Cdk and have shown that in the absence of interphase Cdks, Cdk1 can execute all the events that are required to drive cell division.
