More funding needed to wipe out rinderpest

Article Abstract:

Rinderpest is a livestock disease that is on the brink of total eradication, but needs more funding for its final eradication stages, or elimination efforts so far will be wasted. The disease, which mostly affects African and Asian cattle and other ungulates, has been isolated to parts of Pakistan, Somalia and Sudan.

Standards needed for foot-and-mouth tests

Article Abstract:

Agreement on international standards on specificity and sensitivity is needed if simple diagnostic tests for foot-and-mouth disease are to be widely available. The tests differentiate between infected, vaccinated and 'carrier' livestock.

Europe hooks up with China for space first

The first joint space project between China and Europe has been announced. Called Double Star the project is for the study of the magnetosphere and will use Chinese satellites to carry the European experimental equipment.
