NF is enough of GAP

Article Abstract:

Cells taken from malignant neurofibromatosis type 1 tumors express low levels of the gene product neurofibromin, causing p21ras gene build up in its GTP-bound state and so helps to render the cells malignant. Neurofibromatosis is a genetic disease marked by benign but occasionally malignant tumors that spread out from the neural crest. Work by two research groups has helped elucidate the disease's onset. New treatments such as the inactivation of the p21ras gene may soon be developed.

Why Ras needs Rho

Article Abstract:

The Rho group of GTPase proteins control an array of processes and are essential in the transformation of cells to an oncogenic state by Ras, another GTPase. Olson, Paterson and Marshall have described how Rho helps Ras to drive cells into S phase, although oncogenic transformation by Ras obviously depends on several other physiological events. They describe a new effect, providing an explanation of how Rho helps Ras in cell transformation.
