Nest mark orientation in desert ants Cataglyphis: What does it do to the path integrator?

Article Abstract:

The path integration in desert ants, Cataglyphis, is the fundamental system of long distance navigation and the path integrator is reset to the zero state whenever the ant returns to the starting point of its foraging journey, and it is investigated whether the landmark panaroma characterizing the nest entrance suffices to reset the path integrator. It can be said that geocentric visual cues in themselves are not sufficient to recalibrate the egocentric path integrator.

Reproductive decisions are sensitive to cues of life expectancy: The case of a moth

Article Abstract:

The effects of different potential indexes of mortality risk on oviposition in a geometrid moth Scotopteryx chenopodiata L were measured. Observations suggest that physical injuries led to a higher oviposition rate and shorter latency on both a high-ranked and a low-ranked host.

Primary sex ratio adjustment by ant queens in response to local mate competition

Article Abstract:

The primary sex ratios laid by ant queens in monogynous and in polygynous experimental colonies of Cardiocondyla obscurior are compared. The proportion of haploid eggs laid by queens was significantly lower in single-queen than in multiple-queen colonies.
