New Orleans researchers fight to salvage work from submerged labs

Article Abstract:

Hurricane Katrina in September 2005 has devastated research laboratories in New Orleans and rescue teams discovered that many frozen specimens and cell cultures became useless while many laboratory animals had drowned. In order to salvage careers and studies of scientists and students, the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Department of Energy are extending grant deadlines, and offering to match affected researchers with academic hosts.

Back on track?

Article Abstract:

The Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee, which is more than 60 years old with an excellent track record in nuclear research had lost much of its sheen over the years.
