No experimental evidence that sibling competition induces young to switch nests in the colonial Alpine swift, Apus melba

Article Abstract:

A study on colonial Alpine swift, Apus melbato, to determine the most important factor that leads young dependent colonial animals to leave their own parents and seek adoption from nonbiological parents is presented. Ectoparasitism and not sibling competition is found to be the prime factor in nest switching.
