Northern bobwhite restocking in East Texas: a genetic assessment

Article Abstract:

Researchers used genetic markers to investigate the genetic results of introducing two subspecies of northern bobwhites into a study area in eastern Texas. The researchers marked 50 birds from the South Texas subspecies, 13 local birds from the East Texas subspecies and 32 non-local birds from the East Texas subspecies before introducing them to the study area in 1990. During 1991 and 1992 researchers examined 186 young unmarked birds and found them to be more similar genetically to the East Texas subspecies. This indicates that bobwhite restocking efforts would be more effective if local birds, or birds from the same subspecies, are used.

Foraging ecology of bald eagles in a freshwater tidal system

Article Abstract:

The summer foraging ecology of resident and migrant bald eagles along Hudson River, New York, from 1998 to 2001 is studied. Data showed that unvegetated tidal mudflats isolated from intensive human activities provide the highest quality foraging habitat.
